Designer Notes and Details
Our Jebena pendant is both art and tool, featuring classic zig zag motif inlay. In many Eritrean and Ethiopian homes the indigenous clay coffee pot Jebena functions as a decorative family heirloom with practical use value. This animate object and necklace is a part of the Boon/ Buna coffee ceremony, involving the aromatic grinding, roasting and brewing of coffee traditionally served with popcorn and Himbasha bread. Usually facilitated by women, this ritual is an invitation to community, life and remembrance by way of activating all the senses.
This particular single spout Jebena style is Eritrean and Tigrayan, there are a variety of regional styles.
