Malcolm X Small Square Medallion Necklace

Designer Notes and Details

Malcolm X (1925-1965) was a human rights activist, a revolutionary who asserted the right of all people to protect and improve themselves by their own hand, the right to secure their own bodies and thrive. He was a representation of Black humanity, anguish, anger, love and power in the face of American (transnational) White Supremacy.  Malcolm was a sincere purveyor of 20th century Garveyism, N.O.I. teachings and Pan Africanism.

The Malcolm X Medallion Necklace is an homage to a true freedom fighter and image activist who died on a mission to decolonize the collective Black imagination. It was born out of the urgency for freedom today and the struggle for it, as there is nothing more important. It's an historical and modern heirloom at once, as his legacy transcends time and space.

This pendant is a beautiful reminder that to change from one stage of who you are characteristically, to another and yet another is an attainable gift. Malcolm so remarkably illustrated by example that anyone can grow and ultimately thrive with knowledge of self.

"Who taught you to hate the texture of your hair? Who taught you to hate the color of your skin?… Who taught you to hate the shape of your nose and the shape of your lips? Who taught you to hate yourself from the top of your head to the soles of your feet? Who taught you to hate your own kind?" - Malcolm X
