Nefertiti (1300bc), whose name means "a beautiful woman has come," was the queen of Kemet (Egypt) and partner to Pharaoh Akhenaten during the 14th century B.C. Together, they birthed an artistic revolution of realism; during their reign it was law that people be depicted are they actually appeared, naturalistic and with a sense of movement. This was a radical move breaking off from the artistic tradition of their predecessors, where portrayals of Egyptians appeared stenciled and rigid.
